Best Place To Seek Asylum

Mount Lemmon

READERS' PICK: Set aside the lithium and the benzodiazepines and head for the hills! Or even better, the refuge of Mount Lemmon. Take the high road (Catalina Highway) to the whispering pines, where a natural sedative kicks in as the elevation rises, the temperature drops and your nasal passages reopen. Mild hikers can meander Meadow Trail, while the more ambitious can hook up with the Butterfly Trail. Top off the experience by inhaling a slice of chocolate-cream pie at The Mt. Lemmon Cafe, or floating through the air in the ski lift ($6). The gradual drive (approximately 45 minutes) down the mountain will give you plenty of time to reacclimate to the mayhem below.
