Opening just off of Fourth Avenue in March, Ancient Radio has an amazing selection of records, covering nearly every cool genre, from punk to avant-garde jazz. Vinyl is increasingly of the moment, appealing to music-lovers who enjoy the tangibility and the warm sound, so the store is a welcome addition to the retail landscape. However, when the store opened, we tried to set up a video interview, only to be rebuffed (via a third party; the Ancient Radio folks wouldn't even answer our emails) because the owners weren't interested in corporate promotion. It's an interesting strategy to try to make money in secret with only a select list of customers—but with their selection, Ancient Radio might pull it off.
