Best Movie Theater Memorial

Gallagher Theater, formerly on the UA campus

STAFF PICK: Sitting in the back row of the Gallagher Theater was an amazing and unique experience. At no other theater in Tucson could you feel such vastness, especially during crowded screenings where looking over the mass of viewers immediately created a symbiotic viewing experience. In spring of 1999, after 28 years of showing everything from crusty classics to trashy favorites, free sneak-previews and midnight movies, the Gallagher was unfortunately locked into a small space in Tucson's cinema history, sacrificed to the rebuilding of the Student Union. As McCulture takes over the UA campus, this loss is especially resonant; and for those who enjoy films as much for the event as for the work itself, it's especially sad.
