Women in Black

You know them as the crew on the corner of Speedway Boulevard and Euclid Avenue. Every Friday at 5 p.m., while most passing motorists seek the nearest happy hour, these Women (and several men) in Black brave exhaust fumes, inclement weather and wayward buses to take a stand for peace. Affiliated with the international Women in Black peace network started in 1988, Tucson's Women in Black organize or participate in a veritable juggling act of peace-related activities, from silent vigils to teach-ins and training sessions to rallies. So next time you drive by on your way to that pitcher and nachos, show your support for peace and human rights everywhere with several quick toots of your horn. Better yet, park it, grab a sign and join in.
