In most Asian restaurants this soup is a toss away item—something put on the menu because customers expect it. There's not much thought put in to the prep and the results are terribly greasy or totally tasteless or too salty or all three. But that's not the way this ubiquitous soup is done at this far eastside restaurant. This version is smooth and silky. Packed with umami, rich with veggies—it's the kind of soup that can cure any ill, real or imagined. Even the wonton strips seem to be better for spending time in the bowl with this savory soup. And the soup is only the beginning of a long list of fab food. Far Eastsiders consider yourselves lucky.
