This place may be one of Tucson's best-kept secrets when it comes to family fun. Sure, it's not the San Diego Zoo, but there are enough animals, activities and special programs to keep families engaged for several visits throughout the year. With habitats to support hundreds of animals from Asia, Africa and South America, the zoo's mission is clearly focused on education, but in a way that is engaging and fun. Summer camps, group activities, nighttime experiences and opportunities to go behind the scenes can all be part of the zoo experience. Family memberships offering unlimited admission are extremely reasonable—and can also be combined with memberships to the Tucson Children's Museum. Be sure to check out the zoo's super-snazzy website for seasonal details and other educational links.
