Manhattanites might scoff, but in Tucson, we get our bagels at Bruegger's. We aren't snobs about texture; the chain impresses us not with its stone hearth, but by never failing to make our breakfast fresh, hot and chewy. Besides, why be picky when there are so many choices? The bagels come in varieties from pumpernickel to Asiago parmesan, along with virtually any kind of cream cheese or hummus you can dream up. The restaurant also offers soup, sandwiches and desserts, and is always touting the newest health-conscious option. (Right now, it's the "skinny bagel," weighing in at just 200 calories.) The staff is friendly to boot. That's something we've got that the New Yorkers don't.
