You Can Still be Part of History: Get Your UNITY Sign

At the height of the SB 1062 nonsense, did you get your Open for Business sign and sign the UNITY pledge?

You still can:

Every movement has a story, this is ours.

ONE Community, in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign, has been educating, empowering and connecting LGBT and allied individuals and businesses since 2008. Through our member based coalition, we promote businesses and organizations that support the LGBT community, diversity, inclusion and equality.

Over 70% of Arizonans believe there is equality in places of employment for all in our state. Unfortunately, this is not the reality. Today, in Arizona, you can still be fired for who you may love. We don't want special protections, just the same as everyone else.

In February 2013, ONE Community launched the UNITY Pledge, a concerted effort by Arizona businesses, organizations and individuals to advance workplace equality and equal treatment in housing and public accommodations for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) individuals.

If you haven’t already, we hope that you will take ONE minute to take the UNITY Pledge and join the thousands of individuals, businesses and organizations who believe it’s time for equality for all Arizona employees, residents and consumers!

In February of 2014, SB 1062 legislation began making negative headlines, ONE Community was in a unique position to reach out to the businesses, organizations and individuals who had signed the UNITY Pledge and encouraged them to share what they know — discrimination is bad for business and bad for the State of Arizona.

We partnered with ONE Community business member, FASTSIGNS on Central to create the OPEN for Business to Everyone signs. During the peak of SB 1062, we distributed more than 3500 signs in less than 72 hours and the sign was shared more than 100,000 times on the internet. Individuals and businesses throughout the state, posted the sign in their storefronts, offices and homes. The Human Rights Campaign collected more than 65,000 signatures urging the governor to veto SB 1062. Together we helped mobilize more than 200 top businesses, professional sports organizations and faith leaders to encourage Governor Brewer to veto SB 1062.

We love the diverse communities and landscapes that make Arizona great, and understand that inclusion is good for our community and economy! If you feel the same way, we ask that you proudly display the OPEN for Business to Everyone sign in your storefront, business, office or home.

We’re sure you’ll agree, it’s time to ensure equality for all Arizona employees, residents and consumers.
