The only time I was ever suspicious of a Tucson mayor was when I heard Bob Walkup pronounce mariachi. My mother and I cringed, looked each other and tried to enjoy the rest of the Mariachi Festival. But I recognized that Walkup's butchering of the word didn't have much do to with being on crack.

And yes, I'll always be disappointed he never slugged Frank Antenori in the jaw outside Chuy's a few elections seasons ago after being accused of not being a Republican. This was in those early tea-bagging days and right now most of us don't remember what Republicans are supposed to be like and are working hard to remember that Republican friend of the family from long ago who just seemed like a normal person. Whatever happened to that guy?

Anyway, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild seems to be good about not bumping into things and being good-natured. He's yet to scare anyone with the word mariachi, but there's still time.
