Soccer Is Still Happening Tonight

Somehow, we have survived the #TucsonBlizzard, so now we have to rebuild, trying to figure out what to do with our lives without the threat of a snow-based demise hanging over our heads. The good news is that there's still soccer to be watched and enjoyed tonight, as the Desert Diamond Cup rolls on with Real Salt Lake playing New England at 5 pm and Seattle taking on New York at 7.

The amusing press release from the FC Tucson folk on the subject is below the cut:

Dear fans,

If you’re like us, the first thing you did today was check the weather forecast. And then you probably pouted a little bit. We did. The weather forecast, to be honest, doesn’t look fun.

But guess what: tonight will be fun. Why? For one, tonight’s Desert Diamond Cup matches will go on. Not might go on. Not probably go on. They. Will. Go. On. And a day with soccer is always better than a day without soccer.

Some think soccer isn’t a tough sport. They don’t need pads to play it. No one is allowed to use their hands. And the average soccer player is like 5’4”. (OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea). But soccer is a tough sport. Players get concussed. Legs are sometimes snapped. Achilles heels are, on occasion, sliced open by a cleat.

Oh, and soccer players play in the rain. And the cold. And just about any type of weather that isn’t the climatic scene from the movie “The Day After Tomorrow.” This is a part of who we are. And if you haven’t already gotten your ticket we want you to come and be a part of this.

Soccer is a beautiful game that sometimes must be played in very un-beautiful weather. That will probably be the case tonight. But it’s still going to be fun. Because this is soccer. This isn’t work. This isn’t visiting your in-laws that may or may not still resent you. And this isn’t watching Les Miserable (seriously that movie just wouldn’t end).

This is soccer! And is there really anything better to do on a Wednesday night?
