A List of Ways to Participate in World AIDS Day

You might have seen some World AIDS Day events in the Weekly or online somewhere, but Jeffrey Scott Brown has done a great job putting together on Facebook a list of events happening all day long, including a free breakfast at Mother Hubbard's right now and running until closing time early tomorrow.

If you know of anything else happening today, feel free to pass the information on in the comments.

HIV NEVER TAKES A DAY OFF - WHY SHOULD WE?

BREAKFAST-
6am to 10am ~ Start the day off right and RED: tell your server you're "with WORLD AIDS DAY" or you're "HIV-POSITIVE" and get a FREE simple breakfast (2 eggs, potatoes, toast) compliments of the ultra-hip Harley riding Mother Hubbard herself. One free breakfast per person, please. Coffee, other menu beverages and tip not included (please treat your server well). If you have messages and names of those you've lost to the disease, a section of AIDS Ribbon Tucson will be available for you to sign.

LUNCH-
11am to 1pm ~ Jacome Plaza at Valdez Main Library: FREE and Confidential HIV TESTING courtesy of the Pima County Health Department Mobile Testing Unit. Enjoy the musical stylings of GROUPO TESORO featuring Mary Silva, Frank Martinez and Patti Licon. Bring a lunch and relax while you wait for your HIV test results & be proud of yourself - you're a part of the solution! Rumor has it that Tucson's one-and-only Sister from the Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Sister STELLA VIRGIN, might make an appearance as your hostess. DINNER-
4:30pm to 9pm ~ International flair and entertainment fills the historic Hotel Congress as the anchor venue for all the evening's festivities. See our local AIDS Memorial, AIDS Ribbon Tucson, rise up RED for the occasion, sample finger foods from 5-until they're gone, take advantage of FREE & Confidential HIV testing upstairs in the hotel's historic guest rooms. Wear RED to show your support for those living the daily battle and hear touching stories from folks living with and impacted by HIV and AIDS. This family-friendly celebration of life is completely FREE and open to the public.

SUPPER/COCKTAILS!-
4pm to 8pm ~ Let the RED flow at Vila's palace to fabulous cuisine and downtown's hippest drinkery to eat at: V. Order RED: $3 Cosmos. Dress RED and give Vila a hug for good fortune & good health then tell her the answer to the secret order of the "V" (answer at the AIDS Ribbon Tucson Facebook page) and she may reward you with even greater discounted RED drinks or a special RED not-on-the menu item created in memory of someone special she lost to AIDS. Don't forget to also say "hey" to her RED-hot man-toy, Chef REDman Jarrell.

9:00pm to 2am ~ Positively Beautiful and Optimist Club present "WORLD AIDS DAY CELEBRATION 2011" featuring a live feed to a Tanzania, Africa village and footage of their World AIDS Day festivities. FREE and confidential HIV testing in the hotel's historic rooms until Midnight. Music by O/W/L/S and wear RED or dress the part for an anything goes AIDS awareness COSTUME CONTEST. 21 and over, no cover for Opti-Club members - $3 guest entry. A portion of the door and donations goes to the Tucson World AIDS Day Fund to produce next year's DECEMBER FIRST community event.
