What to Listen To: Friday Edition

Posted By on Fri, Nov 18, 2011 at 5:30 PM

Yesterday, we presented three songs for your enjoyment. Today, we have three more, this time from Judy Dyble, Other Lives and Centro-Matic.

Eric Swedlund
Centro-Matic, "Only In My Double Mind"

A songwriter who fronts two bands, and a painter as well, Will Johnson has to hold his creativity in two different spheres. It's an idea he explores in "Only In My Double Mind," from the band's new album Candidate Waltz. The video features Johnson painting a mural that would become the album's cover art. Centro-Matic performs this Saturday at Club Congress.

More on Centro-Matic in this week's music feature.

Mel Mason
Other Lives, "Precious Air"

Other Lives performed at both Congress and Solar Culture this past year, garnering heaps of praise. Their spine-tingling delivery has rightfully landed them a place opening for Radiohead's US tour in March. Whether or not this launches them into the sphere of success that most bands can only dream of remains to be seen. Watching this clip makes it clear they are very deserving of the opportunity.

Casey Dewey
Judy Dyble, "I Talk to the Wind"

Judy Dyble, she of Fairport Convention fame and one time companion of King Crimson's Ian McDonald, covers KC's ode to conversing with the elements. Dynamic and shimmering, Dyble gives it a good spin and takes it to anthemic heights.
