Lou Reed, Please Stop
The Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration Lulu has been a punching bag for music critics (scoring 37 out of 100 on review aggregation site Metacritic), but what were people expecting? What was the last Lou Reed record anyone actually liked? Set the Twilight Reeling? Plus, while no one could expect that Metallica would be an angry speed metal band forever, it looks very much like the "Black Album" was the zenith of their career trajectory. Of course Lulu isn't good, how could it be?
However, would it be to much to ask the amalgamate music act to not touch their classic material in any way, possibly ruining Velvet Underground tracks with the stink of this new material? It's too late for setlist sanity to emerge it seems, based on this performance from British TV's Later with Jools Holland. Oh well, I can always grab my VU box set and try to forget this all ever happened.
