My favorite line written about Wallpaper, the 80's influenced party rap group coming to The Rock on August 8th, was in an profile in the SF Weekly: "If Justin Timberlake were broke and had a sense of humor, he'd probably sound like this." That describes the weird space Wallpaper occupies well: they make white-guy-rapping party anthems about sex and drinking that make fun of party anthems about sex and drinking. It's a little difficult at times to understand who the joke is on (although they do give a shout out to "the Tucson airport gift store closet", so add that pop culture reference to the Tucson yearbook) but in the end, the songs are just a lot of fun. Maybe there's some Inception-level irony going on here, but if you have some nostalgia for the music of Bell Biv Devoe and enjoy having fun, you'll love Wallpaper.
