Arizona Republic: Loughner Case Assigned to California Judge

The trial of Tucson mass-shooting suspect Jared Loughner today was assigned to Judge Larry A. Burns of the Southern District of California, court officials confirmed.Richard Weare, Clerk of the U.S. District Court in Phoenix, confirmed that Burns was appointed to oversee the Loughner case by Judge Alex Kozinski, chief judge of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
It was not immediately clear whether the case's assignment to a California judge would move it out of Arizona. No change of venue has yet been ordered in Loughner's case.
