Miguel Ortega, who has proven emcee cred thanks to the Fiesta Grande Steet Fair, and Powhaus' Jared "Kitty Kat" McKinley are co-hosting the Access Tucson TV Telethon live on
Wednesday, Dec. 15, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. There is an encore show on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. and it replays through Dec. 31. You can watch it on cable on Access Tucson channel 99 (Cox)/74 (Comcast) and there's simultaneous streaming at www.accesstucson.org.

There's also going to be an online auction through the Access Tucson website with chances to bid on a night’s stay at The Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa with two days of golf; Watsu Aqua massages, gift certificates for Bookmans Entertainment Exchange and passes for the Loft Cinema, art by local artists, and dining at spots like Janos' Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails.

Entertainment during the telethon—with all proceeds going to keep Access Tucson running—will be provided by guitarist Gabriel Ayala, Powhaus Productions, singer/songwriter Amber Norgaard, blues musician Tom Walbank, comedian Robert Mac, and Kevin Hamilton of Southwest Soul Circuit.

Renowned Tucson entertainers, who perform nationally and internationally, are joining Access Tucson to celebrate community media during a live telethon.

Thousands of local fans will recognize Gabriel Ayala, a member of the Yaqui people, who is at the forefront of a new generation of Native American musicians; singer/songwriter Amber Norgaard; blues musician Tom Walbank; Kevin and Tanishia Hamilton with Southwest Soul Circuit; Rialto Theatre favorites Powhaus Productions and comedian Robert Mac who appears locally at Laff’s Comedy Club as well as on Comedy Central.

We will show the viewers the many faces of Tucson and the power of local, independent media as a valuable community resource,” says Access Tucson’s Executive Director, Lisa Horner. “We’re inviting all of Tucson to tune in on December 15th, because Access Tucson really does bring Tucson into our living rooms. It will be 3 ½ hours of ‘totally Tucson.’”

The telethon spotlights Access Tucson’s community producers and partners in the business and non-profit sectors, as well as its strong commitment to youth media education and features local, indie voices, KXCI, Pan Left, TucsonSentinel.com and the Latino Doctrine.

“We’re also very fortunate to have well-known actor and community activist, Miguel Ortega and Jared McKinley of Powhaus Productions as emcees for the telethon,” says Access Tucson Board President Bob Kovitz. “We’re excited about this chance to show folks how much we’ve been a part of their lives for the past quarter century and that the future of Access Tucson is all about community and connectivity.”

The telethon provides viewers and Access Tucson supporters the opportunity to donate to the continued operation of Access Tucson as well as the future of an innovative community media center.
